About Me

David McMillan: Born in London in 1956 to a prosperous family, I moved to Australia following the family break-up where amongst other things, I became a child television-news presenter, cameraman, and ad-agency producer before taking to crime and becoming labelled as one of the country’s most notorious drug traffickers. My smuggling career began during a journey to India in my twenties, reaching its peak in the 1980s with a courier-based syndicate that generated millions of dollars, with which I became careless. We saw ourselves as a hippie confederation dedicated to turning on the world but the reality was the money and the excitement of beating the system. At fourteen, I sat in the dark watching The French Connection and dreamed of being that cool Frenchman – surely, prison was keeping a place for me. Following the arrest in Thailand and the infamous escape from Bangkok’s biggest maximum-security prison, I continued risky adventures and narrowly avoided a life sentence in Karachi and arrest in Colombia before retiring to London where I now live.
